VANCOUVER — Jesse Walker and Mike West were their respective teams biggest difference makers all season long, and on Tuesday they stood atop their peers as B.C. Secondary School Football Association held its annual Subway Bowl all-star banquet at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver.

Walker, coming off an incredible performance in the B.C. semifinals this past Saturday, in which he rushed for 338 yards and eight touchdowns and threw for another in Misson’s 62-61 overtime win against Ballenas of Parksville, was picked B.C.’s Double A Player of the Year.

West, the dynamic running back with Port Coquitlam’s Terry Fox Ravens, the No. 1-ranked team which was upset 16-13 in the provincial semifinals by No. 4 South Delta, was picked the B.C. Triple A Player of the Year.

Some of the other highlighted selections for Triple A:

Conner McKee, the Terry Fox quarterback, was named Offensive MVP.

Lucas Kirk, who leads the South Delta Sun Devils into Saturday’s Subway Bowl final against Victoria’s three-time defending champion Mt. Douglas Rams, was named provincial all-star quarterback.

Seye Farinu of the Rams was one of three running backs named to the provincial all-star team. Farinu scored touchdowns on both offence and defence Saturday before being forced out of the game with an injury in this past Saturday’s 23-13 semifinal win over St. Thomas More.

Some of the other highlighted selections for Double A:

Running back Zac Kronbauer of the No. 1-ranked Vernon Panthers was selected his tier’s Offensive MVP, while Cole Virtanen, who has led Nanaimo’s John Barsby Bulldogs into Saturday’s Subway Bowl final against Mission, was picked Defensive MVP.

Coltin LaPlante of Ballenas, who led the entire province in rushing yardage this season and is coming off a 442-yard, eight-touchdown performance this past weekend, was named one two provincial all-star running backs.
